Get Back Up

Did you ever wake up earlier than you wanted? Maybe you’re noisy neighbor woke you up while he hammered away at his new deck project or a car backfired as its owner peeled out of the driveway. Perhaps your bladder woke you up (hey, the older you get, the more it happens).

Whatever the reason, many times we wake up earlier than we had planned. I know I have. Sometimes I just get an earlier start to the day. Other times, I will lay in bed and pray. However, sometimes I do something really stupid. I lay there for awhile and fall back asleep.

If you have ever done this, you know what happens next. It is twice as hard to wake up again. You feel tired and groggy all day. Falling back into bed makes getting back up so difficult! The same is true in our spiritual lives.

I have seen it so often. Men decide to rise and shine. They decide to get up and commit themselves to follow God wholeheartedly. Then the enemy throws a temptation at us, and we spiritually fall back into bed. We fall back into a sin pattern. We do that thing we vowed not to do anymore. We get knocked down, and we feel like it is impossible to get back up.

The list of ways we fall goes on and on. As soon as we fall, we get visited by shame and defeat telling us that we can’t get back up. We can’t try again. They tell us we will never be able to gain victory, so why should we even bother?

Eventually, you find yourself back in your spiritual bed with the covers pulled up tight, feeling lost, alone, and hopeless. You see no way back out of bed and onto your feet. You think there is no chance you can ever gain victory.

Guys, this is a lie from the enemy to keep you defeated. You can get back up. You can gain victory!

The Bible says, “…for though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again…” -Proverbs 24:16 (NIV)

When the righteous man falls, he gets back up. If you’ve fallen down, today is the day to Get back up! When the enemy throws a punch, and it lands, you pick yourself off of the mat.

Don’t just lie there defeated, once again, it’s time to rise and shine.

Memory Verse: “For though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again, but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes.” (Proverbs 24:16,NIV)
