Broken Relationships
I truly believe that God can heal relationships when both people are willing to make changes and do things God’s way. God will show us areas where we are wrong and the areas we need to change, and if we allow Him, He will change us and restore our relationships.
Growing up, my dad was abusive to me. He kept the abuse a secret by telling me lies about my mom to keep me from telling her about the abuse. This greatly damaged my relationship with my mom. Over the course of years, our relationship became very broken.
However, God healed our relationship. Through counseling and both of us deciding to respond Biblically to our hurts, we came to a place where our relationship was healed. Mom and I had about 7-8 years of a healthy, functional relationship. After she died, I am so grateful for this healing power and the restored relationship.
I know firsthand that relationships can be made whole, and reunions can take place as God heals and restores relationships. It will take work on the part of both people. You’ll have to forgive and ask forgiveness. However, there is hope that a broken relationship does not have to stay broken.
When you follow the principles the Bible lays out for healing broken relationships, God’s power can move and bring people back together again.
Memory Verse: Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. (Colossians 3:13, NIV)
