For months I saw an advertisement for a new show coming out soon where a single guy makes friends with a young boy who lives next door to him. As with so many boys today, the young guy is from a one-parent home, raised by only his mother, so he eats up the attention of this cool neighbor. The shows commercials looked funny and this situation of a older guy mentoring a younger man is something close to my heart, so I gave the show a try. Unfortunately, the pilot turned out to be unwatchable.
Why? Because, as is the case in much of the world today, what the single guy taught the young boy was one of my biggest pet peeves in life. He taught the boy that men are pigs who are constantly trying to hook up with any attractive woman available. The entire show was based around this guy trying to trick a woman into sleeping with him as he gave nuggets of wisdom to the young child about men being skirt chasers.
I was disguisted!
I think it is time for God’s men to rebel. Let me clarify.
Recently, I heard a song by the Christian rapper, Lecrae that encouraged young people to be rebels by reading the Bible and following God because no one else is doing that anymore. I believe God’s men need to rebel in a similar way! We need to rebel by becoming morally strong men with sexual integrity. We must treat women with respect and dignity and look at them as God’s daughters, not sexual beings. Apparently, no one else is doing this! I guarantee you, when we stand up and act differently, the world will take notice! Will you join my rebellion?
So how do we do it? It’s not as hard as you think. Ephesians 5:3 tells us there shouldn’t be a hint of sexual immorality among God’s people. No impurity of any kind can be a part of our lives.
Pornography is a no-no.
Sexually explicit tv shows, movies, and music must go.
Sex outside of marriage is forbidden, even for the divorced or engaged man.
Ephesians 5:4 even says we can’t have any coarse jesting or obscene talk. This includes off-colored jokes, double entendres, crude words, or even talk of sex. Godly men shouldn’t brag or talk about past sexual sins or past encounters. This all falls under this category.
Here are some questions to ask yourself to see how your rebellion is going:
When you see unmarried couple in bed together on tv, do you change the channel? Even if they are just talking?
Do you leave a conversation at work or with friends when the coarse jokes or sexual innuendos start flying?
Do people around you know better than to have off-color conversations around you?
If you said “NO” to any of these things, then you are not free of the bad reputations men have obtained. Even worse, you are in trouble when it comes to your relationship with God.
Why do I say this? Because I Corinthians 6:9 clearly says the sexually immoral person cannot inherit the Kingdom of God. “Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men.”
This is serious stuff!!! Think about it…if you are looking at pornography when the rapture happens, you will get left behind. If you are sleeping around, God can’t take you in the rapture.
We must become sexually pure men and destroy the reputation of men in our lives. The good news is God is more than willing to help us do it!
I Corinthians 6 goes on to say in verse 14 that God has the power to help us. “By His power God raised the Lord from the dead, and He will raise us also.”
The same power that raised Jesus from the dead can raise us from sexual death. He has the power to set us free. It takes 2 actions on our part.
The first action is a desire to be free. We must want to break free. We must hate the sexual sins we are committing. God will never take away a sin we want to keep. He doesn’t work that way. We must hate the sin and never want it to be part of us again. We cannot use forgiveness as an excuse to keep sinning. We must despise our sexual sin and never want to commit it again.
The second step is found in 1 Corinthians 6:18. We must flee sexual immorality. “Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.”
This is the only sin or temptation we are ever told to run away from. All others we are told to stand firm against. However, we must flee from sexual sin. If the temptation to sin sexually comes from your tv, get rid of it. If you struggle with looking at stuff on the internet, get rid of it. You can live without a pc or a tv, but you cannot live without eternal life and a relationship with God. Get rid of whatever is causing the sin.
Replace the time spent on these devices with Bible reading and prayer. Jesus clearly says that some sins and demonic influences can only be overcome through prayer (Mark 9:29). More than likely any sexual sin is accompanied with sexual spirits or perverse demons that need to be removed from your life. Prayer is key to removing them.
These two steps are crucial to being a rebel. When people see you do these things and live a morally and sexually pure life, they will know you are different. To be honest, the world expects Christians to be different in this area. When you overcome, they will see the difference in your life, and you will have broken the bad reputation. When all Christian men work together to overcome their sexual sins and live a godly, moral lifestyle, we can start a new movement for men. Will you be a rebel?
