After many months of sitting inside our homes due to the winter weather, it is good to begin Spring! As the days turn warmer, we begin to look out at the world from a new season, Spring.
Song of Solomon 2:11-12(NASB) ‘For behold, the winter is past, The rain is over and gone. ‘The flowers have already appeared in the land; The time has arrived for pruning the vines, And the voice of the turtledove has been heard in our land.
To often we men can get bogged down with the same old ritual; get up, get dressed, head to work, head home from work, greet the wife, say hello to the children then flop on the couch, watch the evening news, head to bed and get ready to start it all over again tomorrow.
But with the new season of spring, it is the time when we begin to turn our attention to the outside. A time of cleaning up the debris of winter, a time of planting – a time to spring forward. We can begin to think of getting the golf clubs out, getting the boat ready for the next fishing trip, planting the flowers our wife picks out, planning that next jet ski trip.
We can break that ritual of the day to day. We can spring forward...but I wonder if we spring forward in our relationship with Christ? Have we gone to church Sunday after Sunday and found ourselves in a ritual of attending just to attend? We can break away from those rituals and spring forward, beginning a new chapter in our walk with Christ.
Some things we can do to spring forward:
Begin to change our morning routines to include time with God, a time of prayer, a time of reading His Word, a time of devotion.
We can join the men’s group and begin to get involved in our churches men’s group, we can attend a men’s conference or Saturday morning men’s breakfast.
We can reach out to another man for friendship, to share the struggles and joys of life
We can begin to pray that we would be the men of God He is calling us to be, becoming mentors of the younger men, reaching out to a senior man in our church and begin a relationship based upon Christ
If our church doesn’t have a men’s group, we may be the ones called to lead, so we spend time in prayer asking God for His Direction, then talk to our pastor about getting the men together
WE CAN SPRING AHEAD ALL FOR HIS GLORY!
