January 2, 2021 Rise & Shine

Rise & Shine

I am not a morning person. Rarely do I wake up with a perky and chipper attitude looking wonderful. Instead, my crazy curls are going everywhere, I have eye crusts in the corner of my eyes, and a blank look on my face. The phrase “rise and shine” is not something I’d frequently say.

However, lately, I have not been able to shake those three words…Rise and Shine. They’ve been stirring in me for weeks.

I believe God is calling His men to rise and shine. What do I mean? Check out this verse:

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.  In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." -Matthew 5:14-16

It is time for God’s children to rise and shine. We are called to be a light in this dark world, to stand out and to be different. The world needs to see something different about us. We should stand out as much as a flashlight stands out in an electrical blackout.

We shine bright when we become men who know and do what the Bible says. We shine bright when we live the way God calls us to live, because God’s way is so counter-culture. Still, we must shine on because God’s way is the only way. While we will stand out from the world, and a lot of people won’t like the stance or positions we take, and some will even hate you for them, we must shine on.

Memory Verse:  In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:16)
