Not Just for Pastors

So many men hear teaching on the Great Commission and ask,“But isn’t this just for pastors and missionaries? Do you really believe that God has a plan for the life of every believer?”

Absolutely!

1 Peter 2:9 says: But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. (NLT)

Yes, it is true. In the Old Testament, only Levites were called to serve God as priests. However, this verse teaches us that under the New Testament covenant we are all chosen. We are all a royal priesthood. All believers have a calling to show God’s goodness and be a witness in the world around them.

Whether God calls you to be His representative in a church, a school, a hospital, a grocery store, a factory, a bank, the military, a car dealership, or anywhere else, He has called you to that place so that you can be an influence for the kingdom of God. More importantly, He needs you there to reach the people in that community for Him.

Whatever your place in life or your vocation, it is your calling to be a representative of God.

That’s why it is so important that we understand this principle of calling. We need to be aware that our lives are not just our own—we belong to God. It’s not about what we want. It’s about seeking God’s will for our lives and doing whatever it takes to serve where He calls.

Memory Verse: But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. (1 Peter 2:9, NLT)
