"A man’s got to have a code, a creed to live by, no matter his job.”
–John Wayne
What would a devotional based on great quotes be without a quote by John Wayne?
The Duke, as he was known, was a man's man, an actor with iconic movie roles in which he played cowboys, soldiers, police officers, an oil well fire repairman, and many more.
These words spoken by the Duke ring true today. All men need a code to live by, follow, and live out daily. An unbreakable man has such a code! His code is the Word of God!
I firmly believe that men of God need to be men of the Word. It must be our code.
It is the lamp to our feet and light to our path (Psalm 119:105).
It is the moral authority we follow. It is God's book of instruction, our user manual for life.
An unbreakable man is known as a man who reads God's Word. But he goes further than that. He allows it to change him. He lets the Holy Spirit convict him, showing him areas to change and be more like Jesus.
The words in the Bible start to define such a man.
He measures truth and lies against God's Word.
He discerns attacks and temptations because he knows what God's Word says.
He uses the Word of God as a weapon to fight back against the enemy's attack.
Such a man prioritizes reading the Bible. He knows salvation isn't earned by time spent in the Word; salvation only comes by grace and faith in God. But he recognizes that the Bible will keep him strong and unwavering, revealing the best way to live, act, and believe.
The unbreakable man knows the Word of God is all-powerful and never-changing. He embraces it as his life code and strives to live it out each day.
Men, let's take inspiration from John Wayne's words and strive to live by a code grounded in the timeless wisdom of the Word of God. May we be unbreakable in our commitment to reading, understanding, and living out the teachings of the Bible, allowing it to shape us into men of unwavering faith and resilience.
As we face life's challenges, may the Word of God be our guide, source of strength, and ultimate code for living a purposeful and fulfilling life.
